GRTU complains about timeshare vendors in tourist areas

INDEPENDENT online: " complains about timeshare vendors in tourist areas
The Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises has praised Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech for taking action with regards to those people who are hounding tourists by trying to sell time-share apartments.

In a statement, the GRTU said it has written to a number of ministries asking them to take action on the matter which, the GRTU described as unacceptable behaviour. The chamber said that in the areas near to the Qawra and Bugibba bus terminus, these time-share vendors chase tourists and block them from entering retail outlets, just to try and convince them to purchase their product.

These vendors are not only scaring tourists away from these outlets but are also speaking negatively about shop owners who ask these vendors to move away from their shop. The chamber urged the Malta Tourism Authority to enforce greater discipline and regulations in order to ensure that these vendors are not allowed to group up so as to sell time share and a prohibit them from loitering in front of commercial premises.

The GRTU urged the ministries to take immediate action without waiting for the ripple negative impact of another summer. It said it is compiling information for a national campaign against these vendors, who refuse to abide by more stringent rules that respect other entrepreneurs whose livelihood also depends on tourism."

Stay tuned folks...
